Northern Victoria has many surprises but few compare to the first visit to the All Saints Estate at Wahgunyah, near Corowa. As you approach the Estate, visitors are presented with a dramatic roadside hedge, an imposing set of gates and a magnificent driveway between a cathedral of elm trees. As you proceed down the drive you are confronted by what appears to be a large medieval castle. Welcome.

The main building, which is classified by the National Trust, was built by George Smith the original owner, in 1878. It was modelled on the Castle of Mey in Scotland. It consists of a series of extensive above-ground cellars, containing large timber wine barrels, surrounded by castellated brick walls with a square corner tower, known as a keep. The buildings are surrounded by extensive gardens and the vineyard itself.

The Estate is currently owned and operated by Mr Peter Brown (one of the famous Brown Brothers of Milewa) and supported by a large and dedicated staff. As well as the winery and vineyard, the All Saints boasts a substantial hospitality and tourism operation consisting of a large cellar door, restaurant and function facilities. The food at All Saints is renown throughout northern Victoria and is produced by resident Chef Peter Weir.

Visitors to the Rutherglen region are encouraged to visit the winery, try its products, have a leisurely meal and soak up a bit of the atmosphere and history while they're there. Not to be missed.
