Oscar W's Redgum Bar and Grill
(one hat – Age Good Food Guide 1999 & 2000)

Situated within the historic Port at Echuca tourist precinct on the Murray River in Northern Victoria, Oscar W's (named after a famous paddlesteamer) is a high volume contemporary restaurant, bar and function facility. It is a fine example of what can be achieved in a country environment and flies in the face of conventional thinking about style and pricing levels in a regional location.

While maintaining it's modern upmarket feel, Oscar W's has been skillfully blended into the period environment of the historic Echuca wharf by its owners Paul Jarman and Dean Oberin. It is situated right on the bank of the Murray River among the river redgum trees and overlooks the place where the old paddlesteamers exchange groups of tourists bound for scenic river trips. If ever there was a brilliant location for a restaurant, this is it.

The owners have set out to create and maintain a competitive standard of food, wine, service and ambience as you would find in the best capital city restaurants. They achieved this aim within their first year of opening despite the lack of available skilled staff and the normal reluctance of country people to pay city prices. The restaurant now boasts an enviable local trade during the week and an extremely busy weekend tourist trade. They have also captured the lion's share of local functions and weddings.

Paul Jarman and Dean Oberin engaged Eldred Hospitality in 1988 to assist with the development of the business.
