Richie Mitchell

Field Consultant – Bar Operations

Richie was born and raised in the North East of Scotland. He was educated at Gordonstoun School and moved south to Edinburgh in his late teens.

Richie started working in pubs and bars initially to fund his way through university. He soon started to work his way through the ranks and quickly found himself being part of the management team in some of Edinburgh’s largest and most popular bars and pubs.

He joined Caledonian Heritable, one of Scotland’s largest pub companies in the late 1996 and was General Manager of a number of different venues during the early 00’s.

He was promoted to Area Manager in 2004 where he oversaw a number of different venues.

He had always wanted to travel so decided to take a year out in 2006 and head for Australia, initially just for a year. He arrived in May 2006 and, after spending some time travelling, arrived in Melbourne in November.

He was offered a job at Vons restaurant on Hardware Lane, initially as bar supervisor but was soon utilising his managerial experience and was promoted to General Manager in 2007. Richie was with Vons for a further 2 years. It was here that he gained valuable restaurant experience as well as gaining an understanding of Melbourne’s diverse and vibrant hospitality industry.

In 2009 he moved to Torino Express in Richmond. He managed Torino Express for over 2 years, gaining valuable experience amongst Melbourne’s hugely competitive café industry.

Richie is married to Jeannie, who is from Melbourne, and they have 2 children, Alex and Lucy. He is a huge sports fan, especially Rugby Union, and regularly plays squash.
